Conditional Use Permit Hearing

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Yesterday we had our conditional use permit hearing with the City of Moorpark. All in all it went well and, if no one appeals the city’s decision, we should have our brewery conditional use permit in 10 days. There are a few stipulations for our permit:

  1. We can only sell beer during the hours of 10am – 10pm.
  2. We can only serve customers 4 tasters every 2 hours.

In all honesty, we were a little unprepared for the amount of questions asked about our planned operation and sales. Although everything worked out in the end, we recommend that anyone attending a conditional use permit hearing, whether for brewery or other business, sit down beforehand and think of every single question you could be asked about every aspect of your business.

Additionally, the Enegren Brewing Company made it’s first foray into the news with a small piece written about us in the local paper, the Moorpark Patch. You can read all about the hearing here: Planning Commission Approves Microbrewery

Building the Notice of Public Hearing Sign

Monday, September 13th, 2010

It was required to post a 6-foot by 4-foot sign near our proposed brewery location two weeks before our Conditional Use Permit (CUP) hearing. This is used to notify anyone in the area of the hearing so they may attend and voice any comments or concerns they have.

We were referred to several sign making companies, but these were expensive. Building a brewery on a budget means saving money wherever we can….so we decided to build our own.

Armed with a hammer, some 2×4’s, white paint, stencils and black paint pens, we set to work one weekend building the largest sign we’d ever built.
