EVENT: Two Year Anniversary Celebration

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

This past year has moved faster than any of us could have imagined. We’ve nearly doubled our production capacity, expanded into another warehouse unit, and even started a barrel aging program. It is with your continued support that we have been able to grow so fast and now celebrate our two year anniversary.

As a thanks to all your support, we’ve put together an awesome event to celebrate the end of our second year on August 3rd with 9 beers on tap, food from Custom Melt, commemorative anniversary doppelsticke glassware, 2 bars for shorter lines & our first bottle run with our 2nd Anniversary Doppelsticke altbier.

The Beer
We’re releasing a brand new anniversary ale for the event – EBC Mk. II 2nd Anniversary Doppelsticke Altbier.

Our second anniversary ale is a special one-time release batch of beer brewed for the occasion. The 9.5% doppelsticke altbier has prominent caramel and toffee flavors with hints of chocolate, raisin, cherry and biscuit. For those that had last year’s doppelsticke anniversary alt, this version is slightly darker with more chocolate flavors and is not oak aged.

The full beer list for the event is as follows:

  • Captains Summer Session
  • Golden Spur
  • Langsamweizen
  • Valkyrie
  • Vanilla Oak Valkyrie on Cask
  • Protector
  • Protector – Hop Project
  • Thunderchief Double IPA
  • EBC Mk. II 2nd Anniversary Doppelsticke Altbier

And, yes you read that right; we’re re-releasing our Thunderchief Double IPA. This hop-forward beer is heavily hopped with traditional American C-hops – Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus. Perfect for all you hop-heads out there.

The Food
Custom Melt will be setting up their tent again serving special food designed just for the event. Menu to follow, so stay tuned for details

Keep the Glass
Like last year, we have a unique glass available to commemorate our 2nd year anniversary. This can be purchased individually or as a keep the glass with a glass of EBC Mk. II.

Anniversary Bottles ebc-mk-II-label
For the first time ever, we will be selling bottles of our anniversary ale – 750ml corked Belgian bottles. These aren’t just special growler fills like last year – these are pre-bottled beers. And while you won’t get the joy of watching Matt and Chris fill and cork behind the bar in-front of you like last year, you do get these fancy new labels. We have a limited supply, so first come first serve.

Shorter Lines
To help keep the lines for beer short – we’re setting up a second bar over by the brewery to serve up our main beers. Additionally, we will not be serving taster flights for the duration of the event – you can still order tasters, but only 2 per person.

Recipe: Lemon Caper Chicken with Golden Spur Saison

Friday, April 19th, 2013

Hungry and have a growler of Golden Spur Saison sitting around? Why not make this delicious recipe from EBC Chef – Brianne Enegren. Designed to pair masterfully with our Saison, your taste buds are in for a treat.

Chicken with Golden Spur Saison

6 chicken breasts
1 c flour
olive oil
1 medium shallot
2 tablespoons capers
1 c Golden Spur Saison
1/2 c chicken stock
1/4 c cream
1 lemon
Italian parsley

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Salt and pepper both sides of chicken breasts, then dredge in flour. Heat 1 tbl butter and 1 tbl olive oil on medium-medium high heat in a heavy bottomed skillet. Cook chicken breasts for 4-5 minutes per side, then place on baking sheet. Finish cooking chicken in oven for 10 minutes while making the sauce.
Chicken with Saison Lemon Caper Sauce
In the pan that the chicken was cooked in, add 2 more tablespoons of butter over medium heat, then add shallots and cook for 2 minutes. Add 3 tablespoons of flour and whisk, cooking flour for 1 minute. Add Saison to pan and whisk continuously, allow sauce to thicken slightly, then add capers and chicken stock. Keep whisking and allow to thicken again, then add cream. Keep whisking until desired consistency, then add the juice of one lemon, and salt and pepper to taste. Serve over chicken and desired sides. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Bon Appetit!

Golden Spur Saison is Back on Tap

Friday, April 5th, 2013

This Friday we’re re-releasing our spring seasonal – Golden Spur Saison.

While the official first day of spring (aka the Vernal Equinox) was back on March 20th – the small delay for our spring seasonal is well worth it. Why you ask? Well, it enabled us to brew one last batch of Daniel Irons Oatmeal Stout which we promptly filled into two bourbon barrels.

With our new tanks, we’ll be brewing plenty of Golden Spur to celebrate this spring – so stop on by and grab a growler, pint and/or a taster to celebrate the return of springtime!

EBC Beer and Food Pairing This Friday at Four Seasons Westlake

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

We’re excited to announce that this Friday 9/25 from 5pm – 9pm we’ll be pouring Golden Spur, Foliage and Valkyrie paired with food at The Lookout, located at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake.

The Lookout is an outside patio bar that looks a little something like this:

Our beers will be paired with the following:

  • Golden Spur Saison – Calamari with a house made Tartar sauce
  • Foliage Pale Ale – Thai lettuce wrap
  • Valkyrie Altbier – Cheddarwurst Slider on a Brioche bun with beer mustard

The cost is only $15 per person, so if you haven’t taken your significant other (or just yourself) out for a fancy beer tasting dinner recently, now is the time!

Summer Is Here And So Is Beer!

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Wednesday June 20th was the first day of summer this year, and we at the brewery are pretty excited about it. We’re coming up on our 1st Anniversary, and we’re trying hard to expand production thanks to all of you. To celebrate this awesome time of the year, we’re releasing two beers this weekend.

First is our summer seasonal, Captain’s Summer Session. Captain’s Summer Session is designed to be enjoyed on a hot summer day. Light American malt together with a cold fermentation and low alcohol content combine to create a crisp and refreshing brew. The American hops used add a citrus, floral & spicy taste to the beer which is accentuated with the light malt used.

Secondly, we’re releasing our Barrel Aged Golden Spur – Courtrai. Courtrai is our first batch of Golden Spur aged on a 2-year medium toast French Oak Syrah barrel for 2 months. Coutrai is the French spelling of the city where the Battle of The Golden Spurs was fought. So, since we used a French Oak barrel we thought the French name fitting.

Golden Spur (fresh off a Gold Medal at the LA County Fair beer competition) is a light bodied beer that accentuates the banana, clove and fruit flavors produced by the Saison yeast during fermentation. The French Oak Syrah barrel adds sweet vanilla overtones with a hint of Syrah that perfectly complements the Saison’s fruity flavor. We only produced 1 barrel (55 gallons), so stop on by the brewery while it’s still around. 1L & 2L growler fills are available.
