Batch 100 Beer Release

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

As many of you know – the Conditional Use Permit for our big brewery expansion recently was approved by the City of Moorpark! To celebrate this momentous occasion we are releasing the 100th batch of beer we ever brewed – a Belgian Strong Ale aged on Belle Meade Bourbon Barrels for five months.

The brew has bourbon, vanilla and oak flavors from the barrel. The classic Belgian yeast strain we used adds plum, raisin and fruitiness that round out the beer and create something incredibly complex and enjoyable.

The beer will be for sale at the brewery starting Friday March 7th at 6pm. Tasters, glasses and 750ml bottles will be available.

The Batch 100 Label

June 26, 2011. It was 4AM on a brisk Sunday morning as we stepped outside the brewery for a “victory” cigar during our first brew. It had been 16 hours since we started that brew day and the end was nowhere in sight. The day’s hopes of celebrating at a local pub had quickly dried up into a yearning for the end and the comfort of our beds.

The brewery had tested us and though we may not have won a flawless victory, the beast had been broken.

It has been over two years since our first battle with the brewery, some days have been easier, some harder – we like to think we’re more efficient now. As they say, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” and as for EBC, what didn’t kill us made us Belgian Stronger.

So we present to you Batch 100 – a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. This beer has complex, plum-like characteristics and hints of vanilla, oak and raisin from the four months aging in Belle Mead Bourbon Barrels.

Barrel Aged Helga

Friday, February 14th, 2014

On tap starting this Saturday – Barrel Aged Helga!
We took our Helga Belgian Tripel and aged it in oak barrels for two and a half months.

The end result is an amazingly complex beer with hints of bourbon, vanilla, and spice from the barrels adding to the already complex Belgian yeast’s fruity, spicy and clove-like flavors.

So everyone gets a chance to try it, no growler fills are available for this limited release brew.

Barrel aged Helga comes in at 8.9% ABV, but drinks like a beer at 5%. One needs to be careful when drinking this beer – funny things can happen. Funny things like the Brew Chief thinking he could write a poem about a beer instead of a recipe for a beer after sampling a little too much Helga. Turns out, poetry is not his thing. However, without further ado, EBC presents to you:

An Ode To Helga

There once was a time where a golden beer flowed,
from taps to glass in the tasting room night.
Alas one day the tap ran dry like an old dirt road,
and beer lovers all around were sad at the sight.

Oh how we miss this golden Helga beer.
Sadly all we can do is pray it to return.
But wait, what is this I hear?
The great Helga is back to take care of our yearn!

Helga is back!
Barrel aged this time.
On whiskey barrels she’s aged sitting on a rack,
we have to agree that she sounds mighty fine.

Moorpark Restaurant Week – Beer & Food Pairing @ The Brewery

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

2014 Moorpark Restaurant Week

On Saturday January 25th, Enegren Brewing is holding an event for Moorpark Restaurant Week. Yes – we know we’re not really a restaurant, but to compensate for our lack of restaurant-ness we’ve partnered with Moorpark based Disgustingly Delicious.

For the event, we’ve paired four of our beers with food from Disgustingly Delicious. Each beer will be served as a 4-5oz pour with an accompanying food item (think little hors d’oeuvres). The cost for the entire beer and food pairing is $12 (20% off regular price) and will be available from 12-8 that Saturday. If you’re not interested in the entire pairing – both the food and beer are available individually for $2.50/food item & $1.25/taster.

The lineup consists of:

  • Valkyrie Altbier paired with roasted cauliflower gazpacho topped with diced scallions.
  • Protector Imperial IPA paired with a Filo dough pastry with pear, prosciutto, and gorgonzola tied with green onion ribbon.
  • Contradiction Black IPA paired with Braised meatball, roasted mushroom crisps, and grilled onion spread topped on a soft baguette slice.
  • Daniel Irons Imperial Oatmeal Stout paired with flourless chocolate cake truffle coated in ganache and powered in ground 100% Hawaiian Kona coffee beans.

Happy Moorpark Restaurant Week!

New Beer Release – Helga Tripel Ale

Friday, December 6th, 2013

Over the past few weeks you may have noticed us cruising around the brewery in a sweet new ride. This sweet new ride is capable of lifting 3000 pounds and, if we’re not careful, able to destroy a lot of expensive stuff in the brewery with her large tusks. No, it’s not an elephant, we speak of our new forklift named Helga.

As far as heavy equipment goes at EBC, Helga is the most formidable. To pay homage to this heavy golden beauty, we have brewed a special heavy golden beauty – a Belgian Tripel. We’ll be releasing half of the batch this Saturday, December 7th, and in a few months the other half that’s sitting in bourbon barrels that will be carried to the brewery by Helga herself for carbonating and kegging.

Helga (the beer) comes in at 8.9% ABV and much like Helga (forklift) she’ll sneak up on you. Always respect Helga.

Hickman English Bitter and EBC Thanksgiving Feast

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

This weekend we’re releasing our first full batch of Hickman English Bitter – and yes, growlers will be available.

We’re kicking it off with a cask of the Hickman Bitter on tap Friday night. Word has it that a real live Englishman will be on hand to tap the keg to kick the brew off right.

For those not familiar with the beer from our test batch back in May – the brew, while light in ABV, has a lasting caramel malt flavor that stays with you long after the beer leaves your tongue. Complementing the malt is a subtle yet noticeable lingering bitterness from 100% Willamette Hops.

Following up the cask, on Saturday 11/23 Disgustingly Delicious will be setting up their tent at the brewery serving turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches in preparation for the upcoming holiday! These sandwiches, specially created for the event, pair wonderfully with our two fall seasonal brews: Foliage and Last Days of Braun. Disgustingly Delicious will be serving from 12 – 6, stop by for lunch, dinner or both!

Customer Appreciation Day

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

To show our thanks for all your support over the past 2+ years, we’re holding a Customer Appreciation Day this coming Saturday, October 26th.

Brewery Warehouse

Brewery on first day of lease

Three years ago this month, the lease started on our warehouse. If you’ve followed our blog from the beginning, you would know it had a lovely puke-pink color that reminded us all of old salmon. We painted it over post-haste.

We’ve grown so much since then – adding fermentors, tables and stools to our tasting room, fans to keep everyone cool during the summer, and starting this weekend, board games for everyone to play.

For the event, the EBC crew is ordering pizzas from Custom Pie at Noon. Pizza slices will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Whether you make it in time for the pizza or not, all day long we’re offering up the following beer discounts for everyone:

$1 off all beers
$1 off 1L growler fills
$2 off 2L growler fills

Cheers, and thanks for all of your support for over two years!
